HPAT Part 2: Where are my results?

According to the Hpat website, the results were due towards the end of April. I don't mean to act all crazy and suspicious but what is going on there?

Kinda makes you thinks if the results didn't match up to the standard bell curve?
If the standard deviation is too big, what will they do to adjust the curve?

Anyway that's just my little hypothesis on what's going on in there.

According to my friend, they have just postponed the results until Monday because of the orals. IF that is true, cheers HPAT people, I guess I could imagine some people going into depression over it and just not even trying in their orals then.

But even so, I hear the HPAT is going to be axed out within the next year or so. & even if you don't get the result you wanted, you can always try again? Why not? You've got nothing to lose! If a career in medicine is really what you want then you'll stop at nothing!

Somedays You Just Don't Care

You ever have one of those days where you're not feeling yourself ? So you just feel like telling the world to go to that special place!

Yeah today I really feel like screaming!

Not that something has gone down or anything. But it's just one of those days.

I guess I could just think about all the reasons why I don't want to repeat and all the shit in school I wont miss (but that's another post), I guess that all could inspire me to cop-on and study hardcore.

But to be honest I just don't see it happening tonight. Plus 'Terminator Salvation' is going to be on in half an hour and for some odd reason I haven't actually seen this one yet.

Unfortunately I'm not a machine, I need my day & night off, every now and again.

French Oral: On the phone to my babe!

So I just got off the phone to my grinds teacher and she's totally happy for me!

I'm genuinely so happy with it! And now she's going to torture my ass, tomorrow in french grinds, with written stuff and grammar! "A good kick up the ass!" lol that is literally what she does, if I don't know my grammar!

Class shall be fun tomorrow!

But I'm still happy & grateful for all her help!

Merci Pet!

#No her name isn't pet, but I call her babe/pet!

Orals are totally done!

Aaaaaaah the relief of it all!

I know that I've said this before but you know what, I'll say it again : the amazing unreal feeling when you walk away from your oral. I had mine in the afternoon today. And I'll be honest, I spent the majority of the day going over some notes. I was defiantly nervous before hand. So much so that when the examiner said it's finished thank you for talking with me and extended her hand for a hand shake, I had to apologies and wipe my hand dry on my skirt before shaking her hand. Talk about embarrassing!

The exam itself went well, well as far as I know anyway.

I walked in and the examiner greated me, told me to sit down, asked my name and checked if it was my correct exam number on the role. (At that stage the adrenaline was running so high that I couldn't even read what was on the page. Lol, I just auto-responded "Oui, C'est moi!"

Examiner then proceeded to record and turn on the timer.

"Oh God" I Thought, there is no running away now!

The examiner then asked if i had a document prepared to which I responded yes and she said we would talk about it later.

What I Got Asked:

  • Age & Birthday.
To which I included the year i was born in and where. This got the conversation rolling into where I'm from.
  • Talk a little about Brazil.
  • Where was I born & What type of city is it?
  • Do I prefer life in Ireland & Why?
  • Difference between education here & Brazil.
  • What language do we speak there & the literature of Brazil.
  • Tell me a little bit about your family.
  • Do I do some household tasks.
  • Talk to me about your school.
So I cracked on the jokes about the lack of boys in my school. Brownie points for making the examiner laugh!
  • Document:
    • I did mine on my blog so she asked how did I start it.
Got another joke rolling because I told it all started because I was procrastinating.
    • Do I have a lot of visitors, told he since Easters I've counted over 1000. & rambled on about how I think its interesting because I received views from other countries and listed all the countries out.
    • What do I write about.
    • What do visitors ask me.
    • Do I know if other students write blogs about the LC
    • Do I blog about romantic things & my love life.
    • Why don't I blog about romantic things.
    • What will I do with my blog after the LC.
    • What else do I do on the internet.
  • What will I do next summer?
  • How many point I will need for my course.
    • then we were laughing again because I said I took the HPAT for the laugh an you never know. She asked If I found it hard and what do students think about it.
  • What did I do for Easter.
And that's was it. The Timer bell had gone off around  the romantic stuff question but we continued on.
She told me that she only had one more question before she asked it and that how I knew it was over. lol
The reality of orals is that you need to over prepare yourself and you will never get to say 100%  everything that you prepared for. You've got 12-15 minutes to talk. You never know if the examiner is going to turn around and ask you about what clothes you wear. Yep, she asked a few of my friends what clothes they wear at the weekend at home and when they go out to pubs. Or what material do they use to draw and colour pictures! So if you still have to do you're oral, BE VERY CAREFUL OF WHAT YOU SAY, the examiner could pick up on some odd things you say!

Glad I've it over and done with. Would really really love to burn my oral notes but hey, better not, never know if I may need them again next year!

The idea that I did well in my orals is really encouraging. I feel like this whole leaving cert business is not so daunting after all! Hope this feel will last because I've got another maths & economics mock coming up next week! It's seeming more and more survivable! ")

Bonne chance, to anyone out there still waiting to do their orals!

Irish Oral: IT'S DONE

YES OH YES OH YES!!!!

I did it!! Yiiiiiiiipeeeeee!!! The actual unbelievable moment when you walk out knowing you won't ever have to speak Irish again! I'm so so happy right now!

As for the exam itself actually went pretty well. I was so nervous to go because the girl before ended up coming out with tears. Then i realized how little I actually knew and started to panic. But then i did some breathing techniques my mom thought me and I chilled.

I think being 3rd last truly worked to my advantage.  My poor examiner was so exhausted by the time it was my turn and that she was just kind with her questions.

I got to read out' Colscaradh'.And my lucky dip came out with picture three, you know the one with the girl arriving from Spain?

Silly me pointed out the girl was from Spain and then when the examiner initiated the conversation by asking do I come from Spain because of my surname. The examiner really pushed for me to talk about Brazil. Then the rest of the oral was the usual, hobbies, going to college and the area where I live.

I can still remember the first breath of freedom I inhaled as I walked out the door.

French oral, come at me bro!

I Need Your Help!

So if you didn't know this already, I was born in Brazil and moved to Ireland during primary school around 11 years ago.

Although I have completed primary school here in Ireland and am now in the process of completing secondary school, I have no rights to attend third level education, under the free fee scheme or apply for any grants. This being all because I was born outside of the EU.

Is it fair that, I'm working my but off to do well on my leaving certificate, but don't have the rights to attend college under the 'Free Fees Scheme'?

Allow me to welcome you to my reality. One of my course choices in the CAO is midwifery. I'm going to use this course as an example, to show you what the reality is of tuition fees for non-EU students.

University Course Tuition Fee/Year €
UL Midwifery € 15,400
NUIG
Midwifery € 13,700
UCC Midwifery €18,000
UCD Midwifery €20,000

These are the tuition fees alone, upon these cost, there is the addition of €2,000 of registration fee, ~€150 of student levy and living cost such as photocopying, internet, commuting etc which according to the UCC website is ~€400.

The average tuition fee is €16,775. That means that the average total fees of going to college for one year alone is €19,325.

I don't know about you, but that is a shit load of money. Then you have to take into account that most courses are 4 years long. Which brings the total cost of going to college to whopping €77,300. How on earth can an average person afford that? Unless you shit out dollar bills for breakfast, I don't think any average person can afford such a cost.

Do you know how your tuition fee is payed, if your an EU member of Irish citizen?

No? Okay, I'll tell you.I't's payed by the government.

But where does the government get the money for that you ask?

Through direct taxation. That's tax on your wages.

So that means that the entire working force of this country are equally paying for your education. And guess what? Believe it or not, migrant workers also get taxed.

That means that my dad working two different jobs, for minimum wages, paying tax weekly, is paying for you to go to college. While I might have to migrate for third level education, because of this barrier 'Free Fee Scheme'.

Is this fair?

I honestly don't think it. Migrant workers make up approximately one third of the Ireland's labour force. So why is it that their children don't have the right to attend third level, under the free fee scheme, although they have completed primary and secondary school here.

The Labour Party have added a motion on their website, called 'Motion 36', following their conference.
The motion is under Session 2 : Opportunities for All Through Education Click here to go to the poll.

Please take 2 minutes to vote on the poll and have your opinion heard, please vote 'IN FAVOUR' and give me the opportunity to explore my capabilities. I want to go university. Are you going to stand in my way or help me get there?

Pre Irish Oral

Whoa, that was totally crazy!

So today I had my full on pre-oral with my teacher and I was so nervous because it's the first one that I've ever done. And to my surprise, it really wasn't all that bad!

I got full marks in poetry and talking about family, where I live and such. All I need to work on now are those bloody pictures!  Which by the way, I've only got like 5 or 6 covered! My advice on that keep it simple! All I did was mention things like there are 3 buchalli in this picture and things like nil sa sasta etc.

My teacher said that she was very worried about me because I had missed so much, she didn't know if I'd be capable of it. But obviously the studying is paying off! Totally happy with that! :)
Irish orals are starting tomorrow in my school but I probably wont get mine over and done with until Thursday!
#Irish oral -come at me bro!

Monday, 16 April 2012

Aaaah It's Here.

The most undesirable week of many to come has now arrived. Good luck to all who are starting their Irish orals tomorrow!

Lucky for me, I don't start until Wednesday! :)

Check this video out if you're stuck in the morning!

And if you have time and still not got the hang of the Irish poems pronunciation then you can find them here.

Irish Oral: The Poems

Today I've been working on both my Irish & French Oral, but mostly Irish as I'm so unprepared for that one! Of course my French accent decided to blossom during my practicing of 'Mé Fein'. And now I know my accent sucks either way. No French or Irish accent in me what-so-ever!

Alas! I did find something to help with the poetry and it's pronunciation!

An Spailpín Fánach

An tEarrach Thiar

Géibheann

Colcaradh

Mo Ghrá-sa (Idir Lúibíní)

How handy is that?

Project Maths: Intense Revision

Yeah so know I know why they call it 'Intense Revision Course'.

I think in total it was more or less eight hours of maths, with only two 10min break and one 50min food break.

By the end of it all, I was so exhausted and passive that I decided just to keep my head down and transcribe some notes.

But it was definitely an eye-opener. Went through allot of basic things and are key components in common mistakes. The only section of the paper one course that we didn't get through was integration. However the maths tutor person has agreed to meet up with two friends and I for an integration-only session -for free! So for me that's a pretty sweet deal! Perhaps a 3:1 will be more beneficial, might get to go through exactly what I need.

I'll share some tips and good stuff with ye later. Too tired to go through it now!So far it has definitely lived up to my expectations. Now to see what tricks he has up his sleeve for paper two!

Studying Playlist

Song of the day:   The Atom Song

Sorry if you don't do chemistry but check it out either way! It's a catchy tune! (:

Project Maths: Last Resort

If you remember awhile back during one of my freak-attacks, I realised that I wouldn't have gotten one of my top course choice because of grading issues. If you don't recall then just click here

Although I've put in some effort, I'm still not quite there yet. *sad face*

Considering that we were far from finishing our maths course during the pres our amazing maths teacher has decided to give us a second pre post easter. This could be the last nail in the coffin for my being in honors maths...

Or not! Tomorrow I will engage in an intense TWO DAY maths revision course, starting from 9 am until around 5 I think! The guy giving the maths course is suppose to be fantastic! Last year a girl that I use to know failed her pre by like 5% and did this course, that same girl went onto get a B in honors maths and do sports and exercise science in UL.

I've never been one to be a big believer in revision courses but this time I really am crossing my fingers and hoping for a similar outcome! Really hope this will boost me up to the desired grade!

I'll let ye know how I get on tomorrow!
